Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

Boosting school readiness in young children.

Kids who read are kids who succeed

180-DEGREE CHANGE

Early childhood literacy is a powerful marker for future academic success—and the future prosperity of the whole community.

When parents and caregivers read to their children, it also exposes them to a larger, more diverse vocabulary and greater variety of sentence structures than just talking to them. Children develop concepts of print, alphabetic knowledge, phonological awareness, and improved memory—all essential skills leading to school readiness and future academic success.

Through our partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL), children receive a free book each month from birth until age five. Access to books at home greatly increases reading time among families. DPIL is an investment in our children and our community’s future.
LET’S PROMOTE SCHOOL READINESS FOR KIDS IN MCLEAN COUNTY

HOW IT WORKS

Young children who have access to books develop a love for reading, which is an essential skill for academic success. Our DPIL initiative enrolls our youngest community members in the program at no cost to the family.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library promotes school readiness: sending young children free books each month from birth until age five.

MEASURING 180-DEGREE CHANGE

DPIL instills a love for reading in young children

Launched in 2023, our DPIL initiative was an instant hit. More than 800 children were registered in the first month!

We can offer DPIL to more children as donor giving allows, which is why we’re growing funding for DPIL in the years to come. We want every child in McLean County to have their own DPIL library at home.
