Did you know that January is National Mentoring Month?
Mentoring is nationally recognized this month to promote, strengthen, and expand quality mentorship for youth and professionals. It raises awareness of the importance of mentoring, the need for it, and the true impact it makes on personal and professional growth of individuals.
Our Workforce180 program could not be what it is today without the help, support, and guidance of our volunteer mentors from our community. The mentorship piece of this program leaves a real impact on the students and mentors alike!
Here are some moments that stand out:
“As a mentor with WF180 program, I can speak directly to the support offered Heartland Community College students to ensure that barriers to their success are removed to ensure they complete their degrees. Ultimately the Workforce180 students stay in the community. This is a worthwhile partnership indeed.”
“I am in my second year as a WF180 mentor and it has been awesome to gain the trust of and build relationships with my assigned mentees. They do not hesitate to reach out when assistance is needed on a variety of things. If I don't have the answer, I am committed to find the right person and resources they need...
I also love to celebrate their wins! It makes my heart happy when I receive a text from a mentee to let me know "they passed an exam", need a letter of reference for an application or gained acceptance into a nursing program, ect.”
"I learn so much from my mentees in how they approach their education and balance it with their life responsibilities. This makes me a better and more empathetic college administrator and helps me to critically evaluate my practices and processes. My mentees are amazing students who are very passionate about their future careers in healthcare. They are truly inspiring! "
"This is an opportunity to support young students who are exploring careers, college, or skill trades. My role is to advise, listen, and remove roadblocks to their success. Who wouldn’t sign up for this!
Engaging in giving back to the community or individuals who need a hand is all of our jobs. You can give time, talent, or treasure. All are valuable and make a difference. So, step up…you won’t regret it."
we are so thankful for our wf180 mentors. the work they do is life-changing!
